What’s going on at...
The Hamstead Hornet has been recording village news quarterly since December 1996. It is distributed free to about 130 households within and close to the village. Copies are also usually available from St Mary’s Church, Hamstead and St Michael’s Church, Enborne, and they are also filed in West Berks Library. If you would like to be notified by email when each issue is posted online please ask here.

The canal just, west of Hamstead Lock
British waterways says that work is under way to repair the canal bank to prevent water leaking from the canal into the river course and private property, just downstream from Hamstead Marshall road bridge. The works should be completed mid to late March.
The field opposite Craven House
Saplings, undergrowth and scrub have been cleared from the field margins, fences have been renewed and a double gate entrance has been created opposite the Craven House driveway. A contractor described this as just “tidying up”.
St Mary’s Church
Work continues on replacing weather-damaged brickwork on the 17th-century bell tower. Considerable delays were caused by the cold weather in December and January, during which specialised restoration materials could not be used.
