Oil painting classes are held in the village hall on Monday afternoons during term time. Check with Newbury College for details.

Scottish dancing classes are arranged occasionally in the village hall, a three or four session course ending in a ceilidh.
Hamstead Marshall has good public footpaths, including the canal towpath, a bridleway and the Elm Farm Trail. See the local walks page.

The Organic Research Centre organises guided walks around Elm Farm and open days about twice a year.

The White Hart has been the social centre of the Hamstead Marshall for centuries. It offers real ales, carvery meals and bar snacks in traditional country pub surroundings: beamed bar, open fire, pretty garden and cosy restaurant. Accommodation is also offered.
A quiz is usually held in the White Hart on the first Sunday of each month, starting at 8pm. The rules are relaxed, and there are no prizes; the £2 per head entry fee all goes to charity.
See the White Hart’s own website here.
To read about the White Hart’s history see Chapter 21 of Craven Country.
